ESCAPEFounded in 1983 by local Exchange Clubs, the ESCAPE Family Resource Center works to prevent child abuse and neglect in Fort Bend County
and the Houston area. Last year, about 3,500 parents and children learned how to live together safely and supportively through ESCAPE programs. ESCAPE programs are unique for
being:
Parent Aide ProgramProfessionally trained club members help parents learn to build their self-confidence, self-esteem and improve their coping skills. Parents benefit by understanding the developmental needs of their children better, while learning how to manage their home environment more effectively. The long-term supportive relationship, which develops between the parent aide and family, helps to break the cycle of abuse. Teacher AidesClub members act as aides for the classroom based training programs given to parents and children. Most programs occur in evening based two hour sessions and range from two to seven sessions. Raising cash for programsA substantial portion of the funds from our annual fund raising “Spaghetti Supper” go to the ESCAPE center. Smaller fund raisers occur
throughout the year and members volunteer at Gulf Coast District Exchange Clubs’ events such as the annual Rib Fest
in Old Town Spring at the end of October. |
